A bit, yeah. It's seen as cliche/childish and full of a lot of sub-par bands (just check bandcamp for a sec and you'll see it immediately). Only Perturbator and a handful of others have gained any real fame from their efforts.

There’s some good stuff if u dig into Soundcloud. Overall, I like the variety of artists that the genre has. Some take their songs more serious than others which is fine.

There’s also some who are making actual 80’s pop songs like The Bad Dreamers who have a song that’s ripped right out of the 80’s complete with screaming sax

finally jammed this on a proper sound system! It was one of the most disappointing things I did all day. Idk whats up with the bass production on this but it did not get the attention it deserved imo
