My reputation recently is that I hand out 4.5's and 5's like they're nothing, but tbh I still generally average one 5 per year. Last year I had a few but mainly because so many of my longtime favorite artists simultaneously released material (YC, Radiohead, JEW, Bon Iver)...I admittedly rate a lot of stuff in the 3.5-4.4 range pretty generously, but it's rare for me to score anything higher than that.

"Oh I definitely never said that Mount Eerie's latest had lack of depth or meaning; it has all that and then some - I said it wasn't really musically interesting and thus made better spoken poetry than actual music."

Well you did say it lacked instrumental depth (what I mean by "musical depth") and found that the lyrics didn't hit you quite like other albums tackling the subject matter (thus not "engaging"), that more being the point I was trying to make. Regardless, my real point was that I'd contend that that album was far more interesting instrumentally and in its lyrics than this, but each to their own

ah yeah I guess I did say it lacked instrumental depth (when I hear depth my mind automatically goes to lyrical/emotional). I still stand by that though. Neither of these really have instrumental depth, but this is a more enjoyable listen for me personally. The other may have more substance, but it's a chore to get through.

eh fair enough, it certainly isn't an easy listen, but I personally get a lot more out of it. Looking for different things I suppose in our listening experiences

It's weird, half the record is straight up radio pop, while the other half is some kind of promising indie rock/pop which I really wish they would've kept with.

Chester and mike right now are tables, can't say the same about the other members cuz they were slacking and driving mercedes benz while this abortion was recorded

I miss so much that meme.
