I can agree that Fight Club does not hold up comparing how you saw it in your teens and how you see it a decade later.

But Tool? And Lateralus? They still fucking stand strong, man. And I usually hate "progressive metal".

Besides, most people who start listening to Tool do so at a later point in life than their teens, I'd think, or at least that's when they can start to truly enjoy them.

@LaughingSkull speak for yourself man, I heard this for the first time in my freshman year of high school and thought it was the single greatest thing ever. I still dig a couple songs off it but my appreciation for it has definitely waned over time

review is kinda true but for the fact that past the juvenile appreciation of this album, is a really well-performed plateau of sonic goodness

I got into Tool when I was 16 and I haven't listened to a Tool album in its entirety since I turned 20 or so. I'd have to agree with Kompys here.

I couldn't really get into this first time around, now I accept it's a very good album. There are some amazing high points especially The Grudge, The Patient & Schism which I failed to appreciate first time around. However, I don't think it's otherworldly-mind-blowingly-perfect.

in my experience, people who hate on tool have been way more annoying than tool fans. people get so worked up about this band. they have some good jams, just chill out

My sentiments exactly. I only bash on them cuz proper Tool fans know the band well enough to get the jokes.

Yeah, it's not like humour isn't a huge part of Tool's music and lyrics anyway

'I enjoyed maths when I got into tool...first time in my life I really enjoyed it.'

I used to love maths, then I became a teenager & discovered my tool.

Tool created the whole thing of separate fans because of the musical interests so you have the working-class listener who listens to nirvana and then you have the bourgeoisie who listens to tool and mastodon and meshuggah....
