I love the copy paste 5 defence, a classic counter attack

the effectiveness depends on the person doing it and their comedic timing tho

It’s literally just copy-pasting a user’s 5s. It has the same effect every time no matter who does it.

Putting this out there for those who don't know yet...
There's a live EP of 4 songs (plus an unreleased track recorded for Madonnawhore) from Toby's show at Roulette back in March up now on the Kayo Dot Bandcamp. For $5, the sales will go towards the recording of his next album which will be a proper studio recording of the songs on the EP (plus three additional songs he played that night omitted from this release). It will only be available till the end of the year so if you want an early glimpse of what he's doing next, now's the time.

Toby has signed to blood music and third album is Driver's first album in over a decade that harkens back to songwriting structures and arrangements developed and perfected in his maudlin of the Well days.

Live at Roulette sounded pretty similar to this, but with more stringed instruments and energy. It did kind of remind me of Part the Second.

Toby played 4 songs from the upcoming album They Are The Shield at an intimate art space in Brooklyn last night as part of a new live performance and discussion series for the 5049 podcast hosted by Jeremiah Cymerman. I was there as I had nothing to do on Memorial Day and plus I'm a fan of his more recent ballad stuff anyway, so I figured it'd be great to hear some of the stuff from the forthcoming album ahead of its release.
He played 2 unreleased songs plus two that were on the Live At Roulette EP, Anamnesis Park and Scaffold Of Digital Snow. One of the two unreleased songs (the last one in the set) was my favorite song of the set. Fans of Toby's falsetto and/or the Maudlin ballads will love it, I think. An interview with Toby followed which was quite fun. Topics ranged from why he uses reverb in his songs, growing up in Connecticut, any previous works he regrets (he said there is none), the cassette revival (he thinks it's stupid) etc.
As for the release date, I overheard one of the members of String Noise before the set saying it's coming in December. Might've been November or October as I didn't hear it quite clearly, but definitely won't be out in the summer.

Are we talking about a new Toby Driver album?

Yes, this is a brand new Toby Driver album which consists of studio recordings of songs he first performed live; 4 of which can be heard on the Live at Roulette EP which was up on Bandcamp until the end of last year.
