I'm a bit conflicted because part of my wants more songs that are kind of poppy like How?? and Sunrise but at the same time half of the time Coyne sings his vox kind of suck.

I never really had a problem with Coyne's singing. What is it about his voice that you guys don't like? The occasional off key ness of it or what?

He's just a bit of a weak vocalist honestly, can't seem to find much power in his voice. In the few live clips I've seen of these guys he's been awful too.



Shame cos the lips have made some great albums. Just immersing myself in this and I don't think it's one of them

that's understandable

i quite like all the pretty hanging notes on this
vox are fine, i just treat it as another instrument
but the beats are fairly boringly programmed and you get the occasional suspicion that the band still think they're cool

heh in a strange way the singles that everyone hated seem to take place after the album is already over

in my mind anyway
the frogs tune is the closer

Ah i see. I've seen them live a couple of times and Wayne's a pretty weak singer for sure. I just don't mind it because I feel like it's usually buried in the mix (on newer releases and live) so I treat it more as an instrument.



And cimnele, agreed that the beats on this are boring. Missing those Embryonic drums.

Getting around to listening to this and tbh I'm dissappointed. What happened to these guys? they used to be so sonically explorative. These instrumentals are so lifeless.

even on the records its extremely clear hes not a good singer. its always been a part of the Lips' charm for me though.

The album is a bummer, too long and linear. The Terror was really cool with the atmosphere it created, but this one just drags at times. Could've been considerably better if they had trimmed it to 40 minutes.

most of the entire second half after Galaxy I Sink could've easily been cut. Keep Hunting for Faeries and Blisko Domu and you'd have a solid album.
