@MrAlexK Yes there are lol I actually think J.Cole is very okay and Death Grips has some stuff that isn't terrible. I just don't love them the way some other do but everyone has likes what they like.

J Cole used to be pretty good but he got way too full of himself and now hes rapping about folding laundry and its just... wtf?

I did a dramatic reading of lyrics off Fo Your Eyez Only at school with some friends a while back, it was a bloody good time.

authenticity in hip hop, Ice-T and Flavor Flav became reality TV stars by the age of Mike and El-p, what does it add up to?

Authenticity means almost nothing in hip hop today

The reason Drake is big is because of his songs. The streets and mainstream music fuck with him. He is only kind of a rapper. No one ever believed Drake was completely real. Authenticity is still important in hip-hop, just not as much as it used to be. Good examples where not being authentic really hurt their careers are Rick Ross and Soulja Boy. I can't think of another genre where authenticity is more important.

Authenticity in hip hop can't survive success by definition so the only way to maintain it long term is to become unpopular, retreat to the underground if possible or shuffle off this mortal coil
