That track does have it's new jack swing-isms, I admit the track escaped my mind at that moment, but something about the timbre of the drums on "Finesse" just screamed new jack to me the moment I heard it.

song structure is closer to modern pop, it's more histrionic and has more energy, there's autotune in some songs, etc

There's def a modern feel to the songwriting on this, but those "auto-tune" vocals, at least on the t/t, are talkbox vocals and have been around for a while.
