Opeth will pull a KISS and make a grunge album.

Ghost Reveries is the perfect showcase of what makes Opeth so unique: winding/unpredictable song structures that somehow gel together seamlessly, incredible musicianship and above all else a set of damn inspired musicians creating music with no confines.

This album definitely 'flows' better than PC but some of the song structures themselves have really jarring transitions. It feels unfocused and more of a 'erm...how do you change up the pace now guys?' kinda thing.

T/t, Will O Wisp, and Wilde are all next to each other and that literally makes no sense.

Album art reminds me of that Lamb of God album tbh.

EDIT: Ashes in the Wake, literally the same exact color scheme in the same exact places.

The flow of the album is good imo, just like I said the band struggles to bring cohesive elements into the fold to stop some of the tracks becoming sterile.

Will O is the worst offender, the guitar line is lovely but all that changes in the second half is that the drums come in. Yeah there's a nice little solo towards the end too but cmon really? For a band that prides themselves on multifaceted songs that's just lazy.

Dude I'm here criticising an Opeth album, that's a damn sput revelation in itself.

I had problems with PC too, it's just damn hard to accept that your 'perfect' favourite band start losing their magic after a while.

Well it's certainly not 1 worthy in my eyes and I'd never refer to any of them as 'hacks', Mikael still remains one of the best guitarists out there and Axe is the best thing to ever happen to the band.

Literally tho I had no problems with any Opeth record until PC, all legit 5's.
