Still kinda seems like the people least happy with this are the old die hard Insomnium fans.
This is essentially true. The fact that Willie and Xeno like this so much and Atari and I only think it is decent prove that. Doesn't stop me from enjoying this though. A 3.0 is in no way a negative reaction, and as I think I said earlier if I was still staff I would rate this a 3.2-3.3.

It is, pre-ordered it in June from their European shop, limited to 200. I'm a sucker for pretty, limited edition vinyls.

You inspire me. Just ordered the 12" silver LP/CD for $21 shipping including. Insanely cheap, and totally worth it.

Awesome, and that's not a lot for a vinyl+cd, I'll consider it.

The golden from the euro shop was like $55 after shipping, the ones from cmdistro are definitely the better value.
In case anyone was wondering, the break between sides is at roughly the 18:40 mark when the reverb fades and the acoustic guitars come in. The vinyl also separates the lyrics into distinct "sections":
Slaughter Moon
The Golden Wolf
At the Gates of Winter
The Gate Opens
The Final Stand
Into the Sleep

This review pretty well sums up exactly how I feel about the album, but I still came out to a slightly higher score for now....might wear off with some more listens though.
I was very surprised by this. Insomnium were becoming incredibly stale and this is certainly more varied than any of their past releases. At the same time, I don't find that this album does as great a job of establishing atmosphere as Above the Weeping World or Since the Day it All Came Down... It's a strong release, but it almost feels to me like they're trying too hard to do something completely different here and it almost becomes too structured and loses the allure of the single song, multiple movement release. They do a great job of breaking away from their melodeath formula and incorporating doom, prog and even black metal elements, but like the review really strikes on, they don't really spend enough time or have enough depth in any of them to really explore and show off what they can do.
I still think it's a very solid release and I'm impressed by these guys for the first time in years. More importantly, this shows that if they keep going down this path of experimentation and continue to breaking away from their previous formulaic approach, I think they have the potential to make something truly monumental again...something I never would have guessed based on the 3 albums before this.
