even if it's unique, it sounds pretty dumb

tbh, if these guys took a leaf or two out of artery eruption's books and stopped trying so hard, they'd be pretty g.

Ghoulgotha is weird in a pretty simple way which is what I dig about them, I get how people don't like it but I don't really see how it's offensively bad

"Basically they're ignoring the harmonic relationships between certain chords and scales by playing the leads a semitone down from where they should be, making them sound out of tune. It's a really stupid way of trying to be different."

Yeah that's one thing I considered, but the way the dude explain it in his interview by saying he plays 4 frets from the rhythm part instead of 5 is a really dumb way to get that across if that's what he meant. Like is he keeping a third interval away instead of fourths? Or is he using a flat minor scale? Just a very confusing explanation to use :/

I can see the criticism of "it's a dumb way to try and be different" but I don't think it's as offensive as some people seem to take it. It's still a pretty cool album with some good riffs that, like Snox said, doesn't sound a lot like other dm bands.

Was it something they said/did that pissed people off and started this rage? Some Liturgy-level pretentiousness or something?

If you're not really fond of OSDM revivalism in any form then I totally get not liking this at all. If you are tho then I don't get the contempt for it.

I think a lot of you who claim to love dm but don't give this the time of day....I just can't figure you out. I mean, did you even listen to this?

Rumors of the strangeness of this album (by supporters and detractors) have been greatly exaggerated. This is barely more out there melodically than your standard osdm
