Sitting alone in my apartment. Totally sober, playing this and questioning my entire existence.

This album is definitely a grower (for me at least) I'm liking it more on every spin.

For sure, a lot of nuances that get des overdid over multiple listens. That's why I haven't rated it yet.

Yeah it really has a lot of nuances that you can pass through the first spins without notice them all.

This is so much fresher than DEK, which was basically an uninspired rehash of the brilliant NITND with half the atmosphere.

^^^Agree 100% NITND was genius, DEK, not so much.

If this is better than DEK I'll be happy. But I'm still scared to listen, I really don't want to experience the huge letdown I'm afraid is coming :[

No letdown.

Passer might be my favorite right now. What a closer.

idg the DEK hate, it has a different, slightly more raw less polished sound than NITND, and the song structures are often more complex, I don't really compare them (although there are lots of similarities ofc since Katatonia doesn't usually get wildly different from 1 album to the next).

I think much has to do with what was your first katatonia album. Mine was DEK and it blew me away with it's atmosphere as I had never heard something like it before. After that NITND was kinda boring for me, it just felt more drawn out and the songwriting wasnt up there with DEK for me.

this was much better than I expected. Their last 2 albums bored the fuck out of me, but this sounded pretty nice the first listen. Will need more time to come up with a rating

No hate for DEK, I just see it for what I think it is: a more accessible (or refined, you could say) version of NITND. Some days it's a winning formula, some days it's not. Both rule

Finally spun this. I don't know what to think.

There were some truly amazing sections. The opener, Residual, and the closer are fantastic. But a lot of it just seems very...dull. When they really get into their playing it's fantastic, but more often than not they're kinda just milling around, which sort of artificially makes the good sections that much better.

I've never found that I needed a ton of listens to "get" a Katatonia album but I'll give this one a few more to be sure.
