Sturgill's voice is incredible. It's just as good, if not better, live.

Could be that juxtaposed with the instruments. (did I use that word correctly?)

no.

usually juxtaposing is taking two or more conflicting elements and merging them for the purpose of capturing a certain feeling or theme that shouldnt pertain to those elements on their own. Like juxtaposing imagery about brutalizing people with hammers over happy go lucky instrumentals in Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

country music has a lot of great cuts washed out by mainstream garbage and a lot of bad stigma from the "i like everything but rap and country" crowd. its a genre worth exploring for gems like this.

The artwork is something else.

Is this country as in from the bones, walk it like you talk it or country as in stetson, boots and macho stuff in the field but takes it up the arse in the barn?

Love the Nirvana cover.

Sturgill is the real deal zak - no bullshit from this man. Both this and Metamodern Sounds in Country Music are near-perfect.

Man, I was hoping this would open up country a bit more to me but the only songs I enjoy here are among the least country like :/

I know I'm biased but seriously how does one not love this album?

It's got genuine emotion, great lyrics, a stellar vocalist, an awesome backing band. Sonic perfection.

i need to listen to this again. metamodern sounds in country music is probably one of my favorite albums from 2014 and i had high hopes for this but it didn't really grab me like metamodern did.

Modern Country isn't alt-country either, it's American primitivism
