"To be Animal Collective is to be creatively amorphus"

Spot the animal collective fan! It's amorphous and you've used it in the wrong context. I assume you're a yank.

the only reviews i ever posted here was from when i was 12-15, i don't understand how you contribs and staffies do it, most albums are just too boring to write about in any meaningful way

@Zakalwe

Thanks for the correction. I apologize for the mispelling/use.

I'm clearly an AnCo fan (and a "yank")! What gave it away? Hah.

"but yeah doof they're both the most insane albums to trip to. Feels for example, the first 4 songs are just beautiful love-drenched, euphoric psychedelia you just dance and fucking bubble around like soup broil to the brim, screaming with pleasure involuntarily and being all dizzy and then Bees comes on and completely fucks with the cadence your body has been overclocking to, yeah and you become honey dripping all over window blinds trying to adjust-- and every strike of that rattling eastern sitar thing is like a knife taking little jabs at you, and you know something ominous is coming with those whale whirls and then... well Banshee Beat comes on with that tremolo thing playing with your intestines and you know anco has just opened a new can of worms and you spiral on downward trying to cope with the dread and sadness from that whirling in daffy duck to loch raven's disturbed craving for warmth and love in a blanketed bed

And then Turn Into Something jams a fucking hot ladle up your arse and you find the emotional closure that was absent before. It's almost life changing the kind of connection you foster for Feels after you let yourself at the mercy of it's content"

that was fucking beautiful

oh cheers ferrothorn

"What genre is the book?"

yeeeeah doof the main narrative influences are Miguel De Cervantes' Don Quixote and Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. In truth I try to only emulate the wit and genius of Shakespeare and the gallop of Dostoevsky but i don't really know what goes on because I get too fucking high and piss around and take a big shit then forget what i'm doing

Honestly no idea what "genre" it fits in. I suppose I hope for it to be a crossbreed of fantasy/magic-realism/surrealism/drama and black comedy. I'd happily send some excerpts and you can work it out for yourself

"Going for contrib my fear was not enough newly released albums would be interesting enough to review at length but so far so good"

I agree doofus. The vocal hook on Golden Gal is just so different from how he usually sings in AC.

Yeah ciregno, am I being a bitch to suggest Panda Bear has kept a chunk of his best ideas aside for his solo gig

On one hand Person Pitch is the 2nd best AnCo-affiliated record, so maybe so. Then again, MPP is my #1 and that was much more Panda-focused soooooo...

doofus i've been thinking this for a while too but then wtferrothorn makes a valid point about mpp being really good and it being more panda influenced.

honestly panda bear's newer albums have kinda been getting a bit stale too in comparison to person pitch. some good moments here and there for sure.

i wish animal collective would make a cohesive record that blends all their styles together. every album of theirs is so so different, yes, but like, it'd be nice to have these sampled electronic moments (mpp/painting with) blended in with some wacked out freak folk (ala sung tongs) and sprinkled with more live instruments (strawberry jam/feels). i guess it's too much shit for them to bring around for tours.

Ciregno I'm not sure it's a musical approach issue as much as a songwriting issue. I like the idea of them mixing all the elements that work for them on the one album but then Feels/SJ/MPP are all near perfect releases without that level of cohesion
