Signify deserves all the love, hearing Dark Matter live was something else

Signify is my favorite in terms of the style/genre, but there aren't as many amazing songs in there as in this, TSMS, IA, and DW.

the lyrics on this honestly are Wilson at his worst

I don’t find the lyrics bad at all. They have something to say and compliment the tunes.

Reads like a Wilson lyric

I’m never one to gush about PTs often silly cringey lyrics, but man Pure Narcotic is really hitting right now. As someone getting an autism exal, they really resonate.

kitchen sink pop Wilson =/= best Wilson. one of their more overrated albums, probably - think the step down from Signify is the most pronounced in their discog
Stranger by the Minute/A Smart Kid/Tinto Brass is a tight run though

I prefer Signify as well, but I don't think this is too far behind tbh

Hmm idk, I know more shade is (deservingly) thrown at his modern shit for this, but I feel Piano Lessons, Pure Narcotic and This Is No Rehearsal in particular have some of the least charisma I have ever heard in pop-adjacent songwriting
highlights here are as good as anything he's done, but

I like how it leans really hard into his pop side, it feels really genuine to me! Johnny those tracks you mentioned took forever to grow on me but once they did it was game ova. This album used to be very disjointed for me now it’s a smooth front to back type jam

I've always loved Slave Called Shiver
