"i'd say calling lunn's drumming laughable is a very poor choice of words"

he said in some places it's laughable, which I get. I don't remember his drumming being repetitive but given how he repeats himself a lot guitar-wise this seems like it could be a valid criticism. He's a good drummer but I'd hesitate to call him one of the best in the genre when you have tech death dudes like the one in Ulcerate doing ridiculous junk.

I was referring specifically to black metal, not metal in general. It's no news that death metal has some of the most skilled rhythm sections in both departments.

Oh yeah, in bm he's prob one of the better drummers. Or at the very least, one of the most fill-crazy :3

Cool will def check. This year has really picked up some steam after seeming like it was gonna end up pretty weak.

right zaru, and i'd still argue that laughable is a terrible choice of word for even instances of lunn's drumming. i think that's really a reach to say that some of his fills are flat out terrible. if you were to say that his drumming is not consistent enough to be considered the best, that's a good way of putting it and a more reasonable argument

(and also i did specify black metal )

some of his blasts seem occasionally to be laughably off-time ;)

this album really bored me, i'm still at a loss regarding what people see in panopticon as a whole

I KNEW you'd absolutely love this, Hawks. I'm telling you, Austin Lunn just keeps getting better with each album.

This guy makes some of the most natural music I've ever heard tbh, at least for the most part. I think that's why I dig his stuff so much. Really only one Panopticon album that I find meh and that's Social Disservices.

which is the one i like the most, heh

i'm not really hearing what you mean when you say natural. everything in his music (to me at least) seems so hazy, distant and impersonal. whenever i finish a panopticon track i can never, ever remember what just happened nor does it have any impact on me whatsoever.

I've actually felt that way about most of his stuff tbh. That's why I love this album so much. I feel like the emotion really shines through unlike on anything else that he's every released.

interesting, unfortunately i don't feel any different about this album than his other stuff. ah well. i suppose it sounds a lot different to how i like my black metal so it's not too surprising.

Collapse will almost certainly always remain his most memorable.
