SRock isn't recording album drums? Did I miss something?

He is still in a pause to dedicate time to his newborn son. Casey Grillo has been filling up for him during live shows and when he left Kamelot people where speculating that it was due to having joined Ryche. However that is not the case and I'll just copy-paste my previous post in case someone checks only this page:
Todd finally touched the "who plays drums on the next record?" question. However his answer doesn't say that much. He only said something like "the drums are recorded by Queensryche the band, not by session men and hired guns". A guess that's floating around the web is that Todd may have recorded the drums himself but the band is leaving the chance to SRock for re-recording them as long as they can, and I'm sure he must at least have a creative word.
Now, a few days ago this interview with him and Whip was uploaded to Blabbermouth: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/queensryche-guitarist-says-upcoming-album-is-something-special/
I think it's the most complete article you can find about the new album so far. I honestly feel like this could be a sweet sweet record, they even said that more new tunes will be included in live shows. Not only from the upcoming album, but from CH too. That's great news, because they've been always playing like 2 new songs at best plus the classics. Perhaps they'll try to prove that they're not a nostalgia/money act now

Could have been sooner though, it feels like we've been discussing about "the next album" for an eternity. That said the way they describe it makes me eager to check it out

A couple of snippets. The second one seems sweet.

New song. Sounds really good. Todd's vocals are great as ever.

Good song, wouldn't call it spectacular but fair for a single. I dig the chorus and the final part. Also the solo section kind of reminds me of something you'd maybe hear in Mindcrime (must be Whip). However... the drumming doesn't fully sound like Scott to me, kinda like an imitation of him.

I'm as hyped as I'm afraid. I can't judge the whole thing by the single but please don't be just a compilation of mostly little rockers like Man the Machine.
This is the tracklist btw:
1. Blood of the Levant (3:27)
2. Man The Machine (3:50)
3. Light-years (4:09)
4. Inside Out (4:31)
5. Propaganda Fashion (3:36)
6. Dark Reverie (4:23)
7. Bent (5:59)
8. Inner Unrest (3:50)
9. Launder the Conscience (5:15)
10. Portrait (5:16)

hm. short songs...and the titles don't reassure me that this is going to be some hyper-conceptualized experience.

Back in Rage for Order they could do wonders with short lengths, but that was decades ago. Fingers crossed.

Second single, Dark Reverie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3dcf1EekiE
I definitely like it more than the first one, it has a Warning feel. Still yet again I can't help but suffer for the cluttered sound (which I expected). Class and nuance is really what separates new and classic Ryche.
Here's one for positivity though: I dig 1:20~1:40 quite a bit.

when that synth part started I was super into it, but by the time it was over I was like ok this is super hokey. impressive since it's like 8 seconds total.
I'm mostly just bugged with the album art right now. looks like an alternate to an icp album.

I spoke in the news article so here I'll instead copy the tracklist of the second disc of the 2CD box-set (it's not particularly expensive).
1. I Dream in Infrared (Acoustic)
2. Open Road (Acoustic)
3. 46° North
4. Mercury Rising
5. Espiritu Muerto
6. Queen of the Reich (Live 2012)
7. En Force (Live 2012)
8. Prophecy (Live 2012)
9. Eyes Of A Stranger (Live 2012)
I honestly don't know if releasing the CH box-set exclusives like this is good or bad. Then again I'm basically the only person I know that heard them so perhaps it's good...
