Never forget
You're normally gonna eat a few negs if you review an album this hyped so soon after it's streaming

Thanks Hopelust, and yeah I expected a few negs, they always appear soon after I post a new review no matter what it is. I just don't want any due to the actual content of the review, which was indeed fine for the most part when I first posted, but Jac's comments were definitely spot on in terms of what could've been better. My first paragraph definitely needed some work with clunkiness, as Zaru mentioned overall.

yeah gimme a sec, i'll nitpick a few parts and edit them into this comment
And madness is an accurate term to describe the quintet’s latest outing, New Bermuda. Guitar work will cover a wide spectrum of tremolo picking furiosity, to thrash metal riffs, to a calming guitar harmony in minutes. What Sunbather lacked in a constant varying of styles, it made up for in its focused vision and accompanying soundtrack to a need for the unattainable. New Bermuda is a different beast altogether, interlude tracks done away with, each of the five epics its own maze of musical styles and instrumental varieties. And they work, for the most part at least. Deafheaven have chosen to forsake consistency to pay tribute to their wide span of influences, a diverse pool to say the least. Elements from Slayer, Sixpence None The Richer, Oasis, and others appear in the most unlikely of places within New Bermuda. This ultimately makes for a mess, albeit an enjoyable mess, of styles running rampant throughout.
This whole paragraph is a staccato series of half-thoughts that don't flow very well. The first sentence quoted begins with an And which is technically grammatically incorrect, and also distorts the flow of the sentence before it. "Furiosity" is not a word. The sentence "diverse pool to the say the least" - say the least is too conversational, and it undersells whatever you were trying to say by the sentence before it. If you're going to describe something, don't say the least - say exactly what you mean. If the constant varying of styles makes New Bermuda a mess, why is that something that Sunbather 'lacked'?
This is just a sample, really.

Is this super twinkly bm gaze bs? I know people love Sunbather but I did not dig at all.

Don't get the slayer comparisons at all tbh, like slayer is the only band that ever did triplet palm mutes?

I'm really happy with the record after the first listen. Some parts are disappointing, namely the guitar solo and gruff dudebro riffs on "Baby Blue" as well as the anti-climactic endings to a bunch of tracks (Deafheaven seem averse to sweeping post-rock climaxes on this record), but I'm in love with the opener and closer and "Luna" has their most crushingly despairing passages yet. Going to wait for the 320 before I revisit this, it's gorgeously produced and deserves to be listened at that quality.

I'm not quite sure what everyone's problem is with the solo in "Baby Blue", it's actually the only part of the song I like.

Yeah i'm not fond of listening to anything under 256, and it's generally a compromise even at that quality.

All of the solos on this are bad.

I don't even consider those solos, just leads.

I'm on my fourth spin of this album - really trying to formulate an opinion on it, but it's elusive. I think I was expecting something more but I'm not sure what it is. Some stuff just seems only half-realized.
The vocals are too high in the mix for my tastes too.
As for the review, it's a lot better than it was this morning, but still feels a bit scattered.

None of it disappoints me. I was actually expecting this to be bad after they stated all the genres and influences, but it felt cohesive. I'm afraid to listen to this in high quality. I might not stop playing it. Luna and Gifts for the Earth are magic. The latter is becoming my favorite. Love the style of it.

Kind of uneventful even though the clean sections are nice. Gotta give it a few more listens, rating might go up.

Yeah and once you get a high quality version. I would be lying; however, if I said I didn't miss the bright and shimmery guitars Sunbather had but I appreciate a darker direction
