"This album is like a mega grower. I was really meh on it first listen and now I think it's spectacular"

Aren't all the best albums like that? Also kind of what I was trying to get across re: revitalizing rock. If only!

gonna drop my rating, as much as like this it's not as memorable as I wanted it to be. Maybe I'll bump it back up if I feel like it

Mega grower, with a couple of hook-heavy tracks keeping me interested right off the bat.

However I'm still gravitating towards maybe half the tracks, which I love a lot. The thing is, I think these guys NAIL writing verses, but the choruses sort of pale in comparison.

I'll have to check out their back-catalog. Satori was great from what I heard.

That's arguably a fair call. If they nailed all of their choruses though, I can see them leaning a little towards the poppy side for many listeners. That balance really is a tough one to find.

They have their place, I digress.
Rock used to be made by men who worked on building sites
Alt/indie rock was made by the beaten children of the men who made rock having worked on the building sites.
Now it's all made by trust fund brats who need to unleash their anger after scraping a B grade in some bullshit course at some horseshit college.

Hmm... perhaps that's why they have a taste for B grade or horseshit album art as well.

I was actually drawn in by the artwork. I really should know better.

Out of professional interest-what did allure you in this depiction sir?

The 'sun-spot' like fingerprintesque orbs on a black background was quite enchanting. I was expecting guitar solos.

Ah! I see... that's a perfectly normal fantasy/expectation of a healthy individual who is deprived from actual rock music. The said deprivation forces him to project his desire in vague depictions and surroundings that have no particular meaning. It's a defence mechanism Zak and one that keeps you healthy and hopeful -- you're good to go sir!

This album is actually really good, kind of reminds me of tesseract and hands like houses/our last night

As much as I like this, I miss the edge they had on Karma Never Sleeps. I think there's a bit too much influence of Brent's solo work.
