That's exactly was I was doing when I put this on last Saturday morning.

Giving this a 1 for the sole purpose that Young Thug is included. Guess hipsters want reverse psychology these days... Instead of under the radar "things you've never heard of," they wanna include the worst rapper of all time... Sounds like Doodlebob... Girls and Loud Places are actually good songs, but I'm rating this a 1 for Young Thug.. fuck that

raiting this 1 because someone hates young thug when its actually a jamie xx album. well done bro.
idk there is no better summer album out there yet imo

Dont include/advertise Young Thug then. His vocals ruined a potentially great album

"Giving this a 1 for the sole purpose that Young Thug is included."
that is dumb

Might as well have included Bruno Mars. He's the only human with vocals I hate as much as Young Thug

idk I think YT is decently exciting. there's just so much joy whenever he's going in on a track, and it's really exciting to hear. people have made this comparison before but I hear snippets of prime-time Weezy in his artistic voice, and we really need more of that imo

urghhh, i love the way you write
|
| |
This has probably been said already but: you're too good a writer to base an entire fucking review around a few-sentences-long other review. Especially if the latter is a minority opinion, you're not really proving any point: "most people like this, like I do, but there's this one guy who doesn't, and he's, like, really wrong!!!". As I said, you're a good writer, don't use that skill to start weird, pointless fight.
Your PC Music review is a counterexample, because the divisiveness of the music is quite an important aspect of it, so it's useful to talk about that. But here its all feels so... useless.

Thanks for the feedback as always Typhoner. I tried not to spend the entire review responding - more using the Boomkat piece as a jumping-off point - but I can definitely see how it might have turned out differently. I'm not particularly trying to start a fight, but I think in this case it was important to compare why I liked the album to the way others disliked the album as they were for pretty much the same reasons. Also, though the Boomkat review was the first negative one that came out, reviews from places like The Quietus and Resident Advisor pretty much echo the sentiments therein, so it's not a unique feeling about the album.
I def understand that this can feel a bit petty, but I'm really trying to go about this in the least petty way possible. I felt like I could say more interesting things here if I based the review off a counterweight instead of just reviewing this in a vacuum, although I know that's not how most people feel about reviews in general.
and ty as always spirit < 3
