Oh and btw Clumseee nah I don’t really like the artwork for Proper Dose. It’s fine but easily my least favorite of theirs
Edit: Eh it’s better than this one

"I wanna say Solo is the worst song here but it's still pretty good."
Hilarious. Solo is like the only good song on this album (Heavy Gloom is alright). The rest of the songs just do the exact some thing. He sings the exact same vocal melody 4 to 8 bars in a row, making sure the last word of every bar rhymes perfectly with the previous one, and then does the same thing for the chorus, all over mostly lifeless and forgetting guitar riffs.
Solo may suffer from the incessant rhyming but at least it changes things up a little and brings some energy and some decent riffs.

"I could see myself liking this more than WYDS in the future. WYDS had to grow on me for sure when it came out. Won't come close to topping USAD tho of course."
Mind blown that you don't see a drastic drop in quality from WYDS to this album, from everything to the lyrics, vocal melodies, instrumentals, and just general amount of effort put into the songwriting.

Alpha if you don't think Stalemate is a well-written song then you haven't payed close attention to it. Cool guitar riff and odd-time signature. Listen again. Also are you telling me Smile isn't good? Nerve? Like dude, you're just wrong.

ButtBoy, Stalemate is a decent song. Some solid guitarwork, and the chorus is ok, but the verses do the same exact thing as the rest of the album where he does the exact same vocal patterns over an over again, it just gets old real fast (though they do switch it up with a letter extra stuff at the end of the second verse, for once). Smile actually has some decent verses, but the chorus is probably one of their worst ever. Its just drones on as he repeats the same slow, boring vocal pattern for like 8 bars. Sounds like he's just going through the motions of writing a chorus. No energy.
Nerve is probably the 3rd best song after Solo and Heavy Gloom. Some good guitar work that reminds me of their last album, but fuck, its like he can't help but precisely rhyme every fucking bar and repeat the same vocal patterns over and over. He rhymed a lot on the first two albums but it wasn't like, the theme of the fucking albums, and he varied the vocal patterns at least a little bit.

That's fair, most songs are overly rhymey. But I highly disagree about Smile's chorus being bad.

You could do a lot worse as far as choruses and pop punk in general go, but when you compare the chorus of Smile (or even the whole song) to The Story So Far classics like The Glass, Quicksand, All Wrong, High Regard, Face Value etc. it just doesn't even belong in the same conversation.

Nah I’d honestly easily throw that chorus up there with some of their best

Nah but lyrically they've been writing the same song for 3 albums. Why Proper Dose is my favorite. He finally got over his ex and sings about other stuff.

Oh, but I love stuff like Dance Gavin Dance and The Weeknd! Pop punk of the 10s is cancer though.

yeah I've always loved it. It's my least favorite LP of theirs, but even then I'd still say it's amazing. One of my favorite summer albums. super strong melodies on Smile and Heavy Gloom
