question:
is this better than the new Opeth?

I don't know Opeth discography as well as Pink Floyd's, but I think they both are improvements on previous releases (Heritage for Opeth, AMLoR and TDB for Floyd). Still, while in my opinion Pale Communion is sufficient, this is a solid 3+.

This is great but I really don't see how it's an improvement on The Division Bell

It took me a very long time to get into The Division Bell, almost a year. Then - and only then - did it click for me. I find this album to be very easily accessible and more dreamy sounding, something I enjoy in music.

Of course my argument is debatable, but I find it more intense and cohesive, plus it doesn't bore me like TDB does (I can't help skipping some tracks), while this album just flows as it were a single song. Just my point of view of course, anyway for me High Hopes and Wearing the Inside Out are ten times better than any track on this one, but I prefer The Endless River as a whole over TDB.

Yeah I get what you mean, but to me this just seems a little less inspired than they usually are. But I know they're like 60 years old so that's forgivable; I just feel there's too much recycled ideas in here. I know it's supposed to be a swan song that sums up their whole career, and it works perfectly as that, but personally I think it just feels a little less interesting than previous albums

division bell the perfect lp to finish them off, especially with such an immense song like high hopes ending. i still enjoyed this but i don't think they should have called this an lp.

"I swear it's crazy how much more dated their post-Wall stuff sounds than their pre-Wall stuff."

I know, right?

Been listening to this everyday the last week and it just gets better. This album is pure emotion and is quite shocking in how good it is. Been a floyd fan since the early 80's and this album to me is every bit as good as WYWH. I'm simply amazed given the circumstances this turned out so well

Autumn 68 and the transition from surfacing to Louder than Words stands as probably the most emotional pieces Floyd have ever produced, so happy they put this out and it turned out to be amazing
