@Boney, in response to what you said two pages ago: I have quite a bit of personal attachment to "More Yellow Birds" at this point - I was having a particularly rough night last week and listening to that song as I walked out into a light rain while in my pajamas just... hit right. Plus something about the melodies in that song has always resonated with me that little bit more than anything else I've heard from Linkous.
"Sunshine" is a VERY close second though, and another one to which I'm developing personal attachment (due in large part to the fact that I've begun to associate it with a dear friend of mine) - so MYB may not hold the throne for much longer.

I actually see what you man there Dyl, the song hit harder than I remembered on my relisten yesterday - only thing I don’t like about it is the way Linkous reaches beyond his vocal range in the chorus, though I can see how someone might like that. It is in fact one of the better melodies on the album. The section where it breaks down to just the strings is one of the best moments on the album.

Honestly, the chorus is part of why it's my favorite song on here. To me, it's a song of fragility and hope - and the voice cracks in the chorus lend quite a bit to the fragility factor. It's simultaneously depressing and comforting.

It's incredibly hard to put in order my top 5 Sparklehorse songs, and this is definitely not going to necessarily be my exact top 5 since Sparklehorse has so many amazing songs, but anyway...
1. Cow
2. Pig
3. Chaos of the Galaxy/Happy Man
4. Cruel Sun
5. King of Nails
6. Mountains
7. Piano Fire
Ok, so that's 7 songs, and it's not necessarily my definitive list, but these songs are definitely some of my favorites. Doing this makes me want to go back and listen to every album in full again.

Starts out really strong, but the record kinda loses me after that. It’s just so long and seems to drag on and on... Will revisit.

Maybe some traumatic hidden memory you've suppressed after watching the Wizard of Oz as a youngling?

Yeah, it's a kind of melancholic longing. I was very young when I watched that movie though.

Sparklehorse isn't considered slowcore.

They have a pretty consistent undertone of it an a number of songs that are properly slowcore but yeah on the whole I wouldn’t categorize Sparklehorse as slowcore.
|

it’s adjacent enough that you could envision Sparklehorse and those groups playing shows together or something but yeah

The only reason I'm okay with the term "Slowcore" as a genre is that it's equally as shitty as the music it describes

I was about to object, but then I skimmed RYM's slowcore list https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Slowcore/

Slowcore is one of my favorite styles - guess it’s a pleb filter i.e. it correctly identifies me as a pleb
