I'm guessing it's the vocals that turn you off.

I don't really have a problem with the vocals at all. I just don't find much of their music that interesting besides Ashes. Which is strange as I like a lot of neofolk/dark folk stuff so you would think I'd like The Mantle more than I do (I do still quite like it though, just rarely feel like listening to it).

Pretty much agree with the whole review. There's very little to hold something as memorable here.

Yeah Emyay, I need to check that one out properly. Think I heard a song or two from it some time ago but I can't really remember.

After a few more listens, I feel confident with this rating. This is a really bad album.

I need to stop reading reviews before listening to the album.

"Once the track slips back into silence it never really took us on any tangible journey, but instead felt content with treading the same path and returning at once to the point from whence it came."

this is pretty much the mantle in a nutshell. i do enjoy that album though

I disagree, The Mantle has amazing movement to it.

After the first 2 listens I'd give this album a 2.5. Now I stand between a 3.5 and a 4. This album should be taken in and listened to only if you have the hour to spend (or waste for some). I really like Ashes / Mantle and PF. Not a fan of Marrow, but this is getting better and better with each listen. They're much more focused than on Marrow and the drums aren't as awkward. Nice stuff but I'll wait a bit longer till I can give a final verdict.
