So are you saying Cryptosy would be better with high-pitched, pop punk singing?

They are just as bad as Taking Back Sunday live. Actually they are worst. I have never heard such a shitty singer in my life. I own the CD and thank god for the studio mixing it so good to make him sound decent. This band sucks. They are nothing more than a MTV suck-a-dick band. Plus they are the ugliest motherfuckers i have ever seen. I have an autographed ticket if anyone wants to buy it even though I doubt it's worth anything.

Screaming adds an emotional punch that no other sort of vocals can come even close to. When used right, that is.

and:

for enjoying it? No, enjoy it all you want. I'm saying if you think this album is a fantastic piece of work, (ie: 3.5-4/5+), then you are retarded. It's catchy. I conceded that.

The painting of pictures through this music? They just used a STUPID storyline for the concept album (which is a Mars VOlta ripoff. TOo many bands have this concept shit going on lately. Keep it exclusive, unless you're gonna do a good job of it), scrawled some garbage here and there, combed a thesaurus, edietd in, edited out, bam, My Chemical Romance.

You guys don't seem to get it. 4/5 means that this album should be put alongside several pink floyd, beatles, etc. albums. 3/5 means it's okay, which is where, judging by your opinions, this album should be.

Have you heard of Thrice? You should listen to the song "The Abolition of Man." There's a lot of singing throughout and then when the song has a brutal breakdown with a cool harmonic minor/arabic melody at the end, he just screams like nobody's business. It's a perfect punch at the crescendo, and it's absolutely necessary. I used to think like you too. Then I realized that screaming is just another texture to the music. Why do people use distorted guitars? It just adds an edge to the music. Screaming is the distorted guitar of vocals.

For the record by insulting MCR you're not insulting any music I like.

I don't really like Cryptopsy. Thrice is my favorite band. Glassjaw does similar things as well in terms of mixing singing and screaming. Listen to the song "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Silence" or "Piano" to get an idea of that whole scream at the crescendo thing.

Also good Thrice songs with screaming:

All That's Left (mostly melodic vocals, but a small amount of well timed screaming)

Silhouette is one of the most energetic songs ever by thrice, despite how slow it is... the chorus is all screamed, and it's just amazing. The power chord onslaught in the chorus is just too cool.

DFelon's Abolition of Man recommendation is definitely a good one.

Hoods on Peregrine by Thrice is also a great song.

I'd recommend some older Thrice, but most of the screaming in the older stuff is.. not as well timed. I mean, I still love both the old albums, but they did a much better job on TAITA, if you ask me.

Tenfootbrett, you have no balls. How about the amazingly tasteful contrast of the acoutic and sung intro followed by the screamed and hardcore punk verse of "Phoenix Ignition?"

And, seriously, "The Illusion of Safety" owns "The Artist in the ambulance" for sure IMO.

JeW, MCR, Weezer = not Emo. Those bands are Pop Rock, generous Rock or Indie Rock at best. This Message Edited On 08.16.05

What Damrod said is quite true, and it has probably been stated in this thread a few times before. For My Chemical Romance, that is.

Wow, I just realized what a bad name that is.

"Wow, I just realized what a bad name that is."

All of the good band names have been taken for years. That's why every band these day's has at least 3 words in their name.

I don't see the hell you can put Weezer and My Chemical Romance in the same genre and keep a straight face. Calling this pop rock is either ignorant or a very fun way of pissing off the fans.

I don't like Phoenix Ignition very much at all. I'd write that down as one of Thrice's worst songs.

To What End, Ultra Blue, As the Ruin Falls

^ Best Identity Crisis songs. Torch to End all Torches is also excellent.

Illusion of Safety... I dunno... I'll be honest, I think TAITA was better written overall, but I certainly *LOVE* Illusion of Safety.. almost, if not as much. so I'm almost in agreement with you guys. Except about Phoenix Ignition. Bland stuff.
