I mean they used to be very pop-oriented in their first two albums. Then they went more alt-rock with this one. Then a bit progressive rock/metal with kites. then like progressive dream pop with no more stories. I loved their last three albums as they were all different and progressive and a bit more rock oriented. But the two songs released from +- so far sound, to me, 100% pop. Just straight-forward pop music. Not much special to my ears (pun not intended). I did love Satellite before from the live versions (when it was Klassen), but they seem to have made it more poppy in the album's production.

Mew has never really strayed from their signature sound, and they don't have to either imo. The newest song was slightly underwhelming, but it's still a decent track. I loved Satellites though.

Yeah, I don't see how it could be below a 4.5 tbh.

I could easily 5 their entire discography with the exception of the very first album.

If you're worried about it being an entirely straightforward pop album, minty, then stop worrying

Cheers Rowan. Their last album took a long time to grow on me anyway and now I love it. Sometimes Life Isn't Easy is masterful. If there's a song of that quality on the new album then I'm happy.
