Yeah, this reminds me a bit of the so-so cuts on YWNKW (Acting, To the Moon, Darkness etc.) but a ton more energised and exciting and with a different palette

FUCK, I hate this... ugh I'm gonna justify hating this since most people seem to love it, hold on:



NEGATIVES:

1. I really don't like Loveless by My Bloody Valentine's choice in vocal style and this pretty much has the same vocal style. Paper-thin, airy, inaudible vocals; I'm okay with some of those qualities, but all three at once isn't for me.

2. Although the instrumentation of course is fairly different from 90s shoegaze, it's so uncatchy that it feels like a homogenous haze. The way this is mixed also adds to this haze. I know that describes a lot of shoegaze, but it's certainly something I don't like personally.

3. Apparently this album is high concept lyrically: a girl and her seal monster friend explore the Mesozoic era. What a goofy and original concept. WAIT, I HAVE TO LOOK UP THE LYRICS TO KNOW WHAT 90% OF WHAT THEY'RE SAYING IS? Why go for high concept lyrics like that if no one is going to realize without you Googling it?



POSITIVES:

4. Occasionally the synths and bass draw me in and convince me to keep giving the album a chance. These are only short instances, but they do exist.

5. Most of "Fallen Tree Bridge" is good.

6. The album cover is beautiful and fits the concept well. 10/10 artwork.



If you don't mind MBV AND like neo-psych, you'll probably like this. I only fit the "liking neo-psych" part. Sorry someone, it's gonna be a 2/5 from me. I'm actually kinda disappointed.

Just found this band today. I had a class with the singer in high school. The fuck.

New Forest is the best fucking song also lol that highschool post is wild. Awesome.
