That's what ign said about the art design. I've always thought that the avatar world was fully realized, but that origin story just confirmed it even more. The mythology in particular is amazing.

yeah beginning was glorious. the sumi-e art style (i believe that's what it was, learned about in japanese class) was so fucking gorgeous, the studio mir animation was glorious, and the storyline was so simple but so fucking good. reminded me of how A:TLA was so good even tho the storyline was a very archetypal hero's journey



for me, the quality of each season:

earth: 10/10

fire: 9.8/10

water: 9.2/10

air: 8.5/10

spirits pt1: 6.5/10

spirits (beginnings and onwards): 9.8/10

spirits total: 9.0/10 (yes i heavily weight the good parts)



@Cyg, idk , Mako in S1 was such a shallow character. he was just "OMG BROODING 18 YR OLD GIRLS BETTER SWOON OVER HIM" versus in this season, he got tired of immature (pre-Beginnings) Korra and actually dumped her and had some pretty good moments on his own. I mean the whole love triangle nonsense makes a lot of people hate him but he was such a better character this season. Bolin was pretty fucking annoying all season, but TBH him being annoying is at least a sign of characterization (versus being just comedic relief in S1) and he was awesome in these last 4 episodes. and asami's always been cool, takes the shit

Well he may not have been so shallow in this one, but he was almost completely uninteresting. Yeah they may have way over stressed the love triangle in S1, but I loved the family/team/best friends dynamic that they had going on. It reminded me of the Aang Gang.

Also this entire season couldve seemingly gone by unhinged without those 3 characters. It was mostly a solo gig for Korra and that annoyed me.

ATLA had lots of filler episodes but even those were good. The tales of Ba Sing si was so touching, especially Uncle's short, ugh him kneeling over his sons grave was hard hitting stuff.

so disagree, esp. if you're comparing him to brooding S1 mako. those characters stopped being interesting to me... wait since i was never a teenage girl, they were never interesting to me in the first place!



but w/e you're right, tech. the republic city plotline was ridiculously pointless which annoys me too. i think it was more setting up S3's conflict, and it was made tolerable by the fact that varrick is easily the best character korra has introduced by a mile

S3 might be the best season of korra yet, spirit world = always good, no more love triangle bullshit, varrick being varrick, bolin + mako have been given some actual personalities, and fuckin studio mir doing the whole thing
