I think there definitely is, although, sure, responses to an album like this will be far deeper than that on the average. All I meant was that I think ratings matter less than the reasons that we pick them in the first place.

I was just playing with you toxin, I absolutely can see why you would judge it differently than a fresh new piece of music. I do however feel that all you can judge is his interpretation. Seriously you'll like what you hear or you won't. Maybe you're not digging it because he's no good or maybe it's just because his song selection sucked but none the less dislike = low score and like = high score. Not as different in application as rating new music really.

Yeah you're right. Ratings are worthless/arbitrary anyways so it's not really worth thinking about too much. Same goes to your end of the year lists you were talking about, Alex. It's not like random_indie-band#23532's debut album can literally be compared in any way to this release, except in terms of personal enjoyment, so your dilemma only seems to exemplify the stupidity of end of the year lists
