I think it might just be that I love a lot of country artists influenced by Van Zaddy, but never got around to him til this year. Everything he does that’s revolutionary or influential I can parse as being objectively good but it also doesn’t hit me with as much novelty as I’m sure it would’ve if I’d listened to it earlier.
Like watching Seinfeld for the first time in your mid 30s and not being able to fully appreciate how influential it was because it’s influence seeped into the fabric of every sitcom made since.
