The first wave is certainly better for it's atmosphere and greater connection to thrash.

The first wave is better because of Bathory. Second has a greater amount of top quality bands though

1st wave is purest if you like to put it that way, but 2nd is the most innovative and more developed i believe

Bathory were really the only actual bm band in the first wave anyway

well yeah, but certain bands that would become influence of the 2nd wave could be fitted into the category too
but yeah bathory was the seminal and most representative band of the 1st wve

Yeah, Darkthrone and Emperor are my favorites of the second wave. Ulver could be added to that as well, but they have albums like Kveldssanger, which is fantastic, but not BM.
Dissection is also fantastic.

don't really like that stuff but i guess i should probably revisit it cuz it's been a while

Tbh I think I prefer Morbid Tales to this, especially when combined with the Emperor's Return EP (which is the edition I own).

Both are truly amazing. I like this a bit more, but my favorite track by them is on Morbid Tales; Visions of Mortality.
