Its like the first time i heard King Crimson's 21 century schizoid man, i was like fuuuccckkk did Mars Volta ever rip this song off, but they spread little bits of that song out throughout their entire discography so took me a while to figure that out... all i knew was it sounded quite familiar

That is just a complete load of trash, sorry

Listening to it now and I guess maybe I get what you mean - the track's more reminiscent of the darker moodiness of their early work, but I don't see why that would annoy you? The band kind of sounds like something they've released in the past - how is that a problem?

"some of the tracks are really good and pleasant only because Sigur Ros has a pleasant sound - they don't have a ton of depth or really anything to elevate them beyond simple charming tracks... there are a few tracks that ride completely on Sigur Ros's charm without even attempting to be anything bigger."
You just summed up Valtari perfectly

I get what you mean, but for me there were a ton of subtle melodies and moods in the layers of Valtari
that took awhile for me to really connect with, and I ended up liking the album a lot more because of
how it grew on me, whereas the immediacy of this album doesn't allow for that.

Best since Takk easily.
I really enjoyed this.

you guys are gonna think i'm retarded (you probably already do) but Var actually reminded me of a Radiohead song "videotape", i guess i thought it sounded like it could have been a sigur ros song, my bad

Valtari is as deep as Agaetis in terms of layers and melody. The only tracks that don't really are Varðeldur and Valtari

love the first few songs and the closer but some in the middle are a bit meh to me. not bad - just meh. I thought of Videotape too at first upon hearing Var ^

"Best since Takk easily.
I really enjoyed this."
Exactly the same thing that I thought, it is actually a really impressive album, after Valtari (I didn't quite enjoyed it, personally) and Kjartan leaving the group I thought they would not release a great album again. I was wrong.

Valtari was cool but it's pretty much the opposite of this. their change in sound has been really successful
