uh fuck how is this band so fucking good, starless has already met my expectations

Album Rating: 5.0
yeah I know the bit, I could swear he's just reprising (... or... foreprising...?) the "I'm faster than you"
i.e. he's just saying "(i'm) faster (than you)"

btw your icon is like a mix of this album and Quicksand's "Slip" cover arts
it coo
edit: i'm talking about the one that looks like someone throwing a kid in the air, it seems like maybe you updated it? I tried to source it and in doing so ended up on your profile and apparently you have a different icon now? lul

Huh? My avatar (little kid throwing up in the air, or landing depending on how you view it) comes up on comments, my profile pic is the funeral diner - underdark artwork.
But yeah I can actually see what I you mean
I think my avatar is from artwork on "a souls release" record

Didn't know there was a difference between a profile pic and an avatar, so I thought maybe you recently changed it and it was lagging behind outside of your profile lul. But gotchya

you should give yourself an avatar bruh, its what all the cool kids are doing

also i asked for your shiner-esque tool recs in that other thread
|
| |
Album Rating: 5.0
Okay yeah an avatar... that's why it doesn't show up for me... because it's literally not there. lol
For sure re: Tool recs that scratch the same itch (basically just my favorite stuff from them): AEnima as a whole-- especially Stinkfist, Jimmy, H., 46 & 2, the t/t, etc.
A few random tracks from their other albums: Sober, Undertow (the track), Flood, Ticks and Leeches, Right in Two, The Pot, Vicarious, Invincible
This is somewhat arbitrary and these would probably change if / when I get big into them again

i liked stinkfist, will get to tool soon then and check out the rest
what do you think about Starless being Shiner's transitional record? seems to be like Lula Divinia and The Egg are both better, only because theyre both more fully realized/fleshed out and Starless seems to bridge the gap

I haven’t listened to The Egg yet but I’ve listened to Starless but I can totally see that. Starless feels a lot spacier than this, a lot more akin to Failure

Noice, enjoy Tool
Yeah it is transitional to some extent, you can kinda just hear it maybe? Also, according to this guy (who appears to have ties to Shiner et al.), although he admits it's hearsay. Starts talking about it at 1:15.

I guess he doesn't say much aside from that Tim Dow (the drummer on Lula Divinia) wrote the drums for Starless but left before recording, and Jason Gerken (who, ostensibly, both wrote and performed the drums on The Egg) played them (or so the story goes).
Regardless of how much this naturally negatively affected Starless, I def agree this and The Egg are the band's best work
