i think the term wankery implies there's no reason for it so contrived wankery seems redundant lol

Agree that the vocals have no direction...

To Rebuild is so kick ass it's insane.

People who think the vocals have "no direction" confuse the hell out of me. The vocals seem really catchy, and there are some great melodies. And creative ones, at that.
I get the aversion to wankery, though. I feel like way too many of their intros through out their discography are just a burst of soloing.

Fantastic stuff. Always hated vocal-driven music, but I can accept this equal juxtaposition of catchy vocal melodies and guitar acrobatics. Guitar tone sounds metalcore-y, and that's the only thing I really like about metalcore. Interesting lyrical themes, too- Fantasy-historical, heck, even political elements thrown in. Killer release.

CutMan, there are some catchy lines here and there, but I think from a metal perspective the vocal
style makes no sense. This album sounds like a metalcore album, but the vocals are just unexpected and
likely are throwing some people off. The album is still really enjoyable, and I'm happy I found it.

right off the bat this sounds way too much like Periphery for me to handle. but i'll give it a listen.

not sure how this sounds like periphery...

TrantaLocked, I totally get that, it's very unusual. I only meant the people who claimed the melodies were "aimless", like, they had no structure or actual melody to them. That's what confuses me. If the vocals sound too pop for people, I completely understand.

The periphery comparison is very apt. Sonic similarities aside, both bands are very talented but
meander around musically. If they honed their song craft a bit, they probably would write more
memorable stuff.
P.S. Diggn' the variation the vocalist does halfway through "one false step". He should utilize that
tone more often.

The songs meander...? Jeez, how tight do you want the songwriting? Like a bite sized pop song? I thought these were really concise.

I'm not sure you guys are familiar with the definition of Meander.
— vb
1. to follow a winding course
2. to wander without definite aim or direction
I am saying that the songs lack identity and focus. I want tangible songwriting I can sink my teeth into.

Sounds like purple pros, bro. Just because they don't catch your attention doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the songwriting. The songs are concise, mostly pop structured.
They're as purposed as anything else, they have catchy melodies, riffs, and lyrical content. If you don't like them or can't sink your teeth into them... Then it's just not vibing with you.

I think the songs are good(hence the 3/5) but your right, they aren't "vibing with me". I just
explained why.
You seem to be somewhat defensive. I haven't made an outlandish statement. In fact, if you read
earlier comments, some share my sediment. Also, please understand all my comments were based on
opinion not omniscient knowledge.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm cool with you loving it, liking it, hating it, whatever, I'm not one of those guys who tries to prove feelings/opinions wrong, I just debate more tangible things, like, I dunno, song structure, etc.
If someone says "The songwriting could be tighter" on something in the pop format, and I can't imagine how, I say something. I'm not omniscient, either.
