"A good amount of this album is him talking about drugs, violence and 'bitches'."
Good job, you just described 99.9% of all rap albums ever. I guess Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt are "hypocritical" too. Hell, you could almost throw some Tribe albums in there.

Usually if you are against something, IE violence, you have the spine to not make a song with a
chorus endorsing violence just because it will give you radio popularity. The song is shit because
its a drinking song made for clubs thats virtually only going to be heard in bars by people who
don't care about the lyrics. So yeah make money by going against your own beliefs, encourage people
to drink on the chorus while mentioning in the same song that you only drink bc of peer pressure,
but just say that part fast so none of the intended audience will hear and you can keep your record
label happy? shit is beyond pathetic. This is a quintessential example of what record labels do to
ruin music, they make it idiotically hypocritical and shallow.
In other words he made a song against what he stands for to be popular. Seriously can you show me
that part of MLK's speech? I can't find it anywhere

Nah. Not at all. Only the garbage you listen to is 99.9% about drugs violence and bitches. Illmatic
is not about drugs violence and bitches you need to clean out your ears. Stfu about me not
'understanding the album', its not hard to understand, you are just overly impressed by pop music
and need to learn what life is about so you won't be so interested in other's meaningless gangsta
fairytales. I dont care why he said it in the album it is stupid and disrespects someone who
accomplished more in a day than Kendrick's sell-out ass will in a lifetime.
Seriously though, instead of just saying "you didnt get the album at all, clearly you didn't get it
based off of one random sentence i quoted from your review that I can't even rebuttal your defense
to" try to EXPLAIN why I didn't get the album at all (maybe say what the quote actually meant and
how i got it wrong) instead of smugly sitting on my review page and bitching about how
you are so much more informed than I am when really your just impressed by pretentious shit and
don't know what real hip hop is

"Rappers I monkey flip them with the funky rhythm
I be kickin' musician, inflictin' composition
Of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin' cocaine
Holdin' a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now"
These are literally the first two bars of Illmatic.
"Robbin foreigners take they wallets they jewels and rip they green cards
Dipped to the projects flashin my quick cash
and got my first piece of ass smokin blunts with hash"
Drugs, violence, and sex all in three lines in the very next song.
"Martin had a dream" etc. is a homage to the chorus from "Dreams" by the Game. The Game is a rapper, also from Compton. His debut album was released in 2004, when Kendrick was roughly 17/18. The song is about freestyling and talking shit about guns/drugs/sex sitting in the backseat of his friends' car as a young adult. Kendrick looked up to and listened to artists like Dre and the Game when he was growing up.
Wow, that almost makes sense. If you're going to summarize a review by cherrypicking a singular line from the album, at least TRY to understand the context of the line instead of putting words in the artists' mouth.
It's unfortunate you apparently don't listen to ANY rap that degrades women or glorifies violence/drugs. I guess that leaves out Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Outkast, Mobb Deep, Big L, Eminem, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, NWA, Atmosphere, I could go on.
You're the worst kind of pretentious idiot.

Your brain hurts my mind hole. Almost all rap is intentionally hypocritical and Good Kid is a prime example. For example double think is littered in this mother fucker. Kendrick is a kid with good morals afraid of the world he lives in, but at the same time he is doing everything he can to be a part of that world. Two simultaneous contradicting ideals ( double think). Backstreet freestyle, the art of peer pressure, money tree and M.a.a.d City are shining examples of this. Rappers are not stupid, they are just like people who write books and poetry everything has a purpose.
