As a pre-reunion fan (just!) every time I listen to this I’m struck by how much GYBE ripped it off.

Agreed on GYBE adopting the formula, but also succesfully adding their signatures. However, Swans pushed it even further on their post-reunion trilogy.

Godspeed and Swans have always felt neck-in-neck, you can extend that to No Title and now (probably) Birthing, they're pushing the limits of this sound to its absolute extreme.
