Absolute garbage. I've never heard anything pre-In Abesntia (besides the painful On the Sunday of Life) and I don't think I will be exploring any further.
With the exception of my opinion on this album, I agree with you Wizard. I've always considered the later PT years better. I can't say I've ever understood the hype behind Up the Downstair. It's good, but there's so much better psychedelic music out there
Not sure if you're trying to be funny Brendan or whether you completely misread his post.

@Wiz: I'd say it's worth at least trying some early PT (The Sky Moves Sideways, Up the Downstair etc.) cos I pretty much agree with you about this album/era yet I enjoy their early material (besides Sunday) a lot.

I don't understand why he says he's never heard anything pre-In Absentia. I guess he meant besides
this album (and sunday)?
Anyway, just wanted to say i agree with everyone saying that new PT much better than psych PT. Up the
downstair is very boring stuff

The Sky Moves Sideways is tasty stuff though

@Emyay: Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what he's saying.
Different tastes bro, Downstair isn't boring at all to me, at least not in comparison to most of their material.

Everything besides Sunday is awesome. The Incident is certainly one of their weaker albums though.

Yeah, I agree but it does have some great songs on it at least

I have it at a 3.5 so yea there's some awesome stuff on it. Just seems underwhelming and kind of unfinished considering how sort lots of the songs are.

Never understood the hate for Sunday. It has too much filler for sure but it has some great tracks and
it's a fun listen if you don't take it seriously. The Incident just flat out sucks aside from a couple
of tracks at most and I'd rather listen to Karma/Altamont material than that album

I gave it the same rating. Probably a 3.3/5 for me ideally. Octane Twisted all the way to I Drive The Hearse are perfect but sadly i have to put up with shit like Drawing The Line before I get to that part if i listen to the whole thing

Album Rating: 3.5
Sunday - Boring
Up the Downstair - Rules
Sky Moves - Awesome as all hell
Signify - Rules
Stupid Dream - Awesome as all hell [2]
Lightbulb Sun - Great, albeit inconsistent
In Absentia - Dull and lifeless
Deadwing - Some crazy good moments but lacking in memorability
Fear of a Blank Planet - Sucks
The Incident - Intolerable

IA is not lifeless lol

If anything Deadwing is lifeless.

Damn. Deadwing and In Absentia are the best. I thought Signify, for the most part, was pretty forgettable. However Waiting phase 1 & 2 followed by Sever is incredible

I am warming to Deadwing quite a bit lately, IA still isn't doing much for me tbh.

Deadwing is probably my favourite album of all time and is bloody amazing.
As for IA, I think that would have been a great starting point for PT, but if you heard Lightbulb Sun or Stupid Dream first, I think IA can come off as boring

Deadwing was the first PT i got into, maybe just played it out but i can hardly stand listening to it anymore. Lyrically it's SW's worst album imo and that's saying something!

Arriving Somewhere has great lyrics. That's it really... SW isn't particularly a great lyricist in the first place

Lazarus, Deadwing and Open Car are cringe worthy but so is a lot of SW.
