just saw this, haha thanks for the honest feedback academy i appreciate it.

just curious, why does the sliced bread sentence annoy you? Is it just because it's been overdone?

I'll edit this when I have more time.

idioms (like sliced bread) are great crutches for conversations... they convey a particular sentiment in place of the actual words that could be used to do the same.

Phrases like that have their uses (and not only in spoken conversations... in written works as well) as they serve an important purpose... clarity, brevity, geniality

but relying on them inappropriately or too much is pretty weak (especially in the first sentence (which is an important sentence!)

Back in the mid to late 90’s Sugar Ray was considered by many to be the best thing since sliced bread.

a. all you really mean is that a lot of people liked sugar ray in the late 90's

b. this is a simple thought (you could have said that in just a few words)

c. because it's such a pointless observation, instead of adding character/familiarity/colloquialism/geniality/anything, going with "the best thing since sliced bread" feels like you just found a goofy, cliched way to say something simple.

dont know if this is coming across (i'm no teacher so feel free to ignore this or ask someone who may kno better) but yea idk

what i mean to say is that successful use of phrases like that has to be nuanced

Interesting fact, apparently Stan Frazier (the drummer until last year) wrote Fly but rejected it at first cos he thought it sounded too different to the rest of the album.

Well it does sound a lot different than the rest of the album but it will always be my favorite song. pure nostalgia.

He was just one member. Plus money speaks and if he got more money for writing stuff like that he won't complain.

Saw this in my local Poundland today, second hand. Bought for £1 cos I love crappy late 90s alt. metal, although it's got to be some of the worst artwork I've ever seen.

I don't mind the artwork but it could be because it's so nostalgic for me

I quite like Fly. The band page looks way off with that shitty Mainstream Rock tag on it.

It's rather safely snuff it under pop rock so it can at least have some kind of dignity.
