Dogma did almost nothing for me. I appreciated the reduction of standard three-chord power ballads but they just replaced them with more Slipknot riffs.

Yeah, well, they sort of opened the gate for this flood of mediocrity. And then just became a one-trick cash cow themselves, which is not a cool way to roll.

I agree with Buck-Tick doing something different with this one but I still have my minor gripes. When Buck-Tick churn out a good melody - it's very good but even on this album there are tracks I could easily do without. And lately I've been feeling like B-T now are also playing it pretty safe, almost recycling their own riffs. Now, they don't sound as annoying as modern VK bands who just chug zeroes on the lower strings all the way to the poppy chorus but it's still not a forward movement.

I have all my hopes for some forward-thinking J-rock on the new DEG and the recent track had as much promising beginnings as it did same old tropes.

Pretty worried about the future Diru album myself. Also, Buck-Tick are about to release their 20th record and they still have more variety in their repertoire than bands with 4-5.

No one's disputing their accomplishments of their career. There's a reason they are one of the most influential bands in J-rock, if not the single most influential.

You do realise that Arui is a complete clusterfuck of 2 albums musically (plus plenty of new ideas) and lyrically/conceputally it's almost completely new territory right? If you're referring to their straight rock era every album has differences so it isn't the same song and dance everytime. Tenshi is based on Imai's marriage and old time class rock and roll, Memento is diving straight into alt rock with many changes of mood throughout, Razzle has brought in the electronics to their sound to interplay with their now Dance like rock and Yume is another can of worms all together.

I wish but I think Diru's Gauze and Vulgar/Withering to Death has had more influence than anything else. But I'd argue they're probably the most well respected since they've managed to sell out Budokan every year and have 2 festivals dedicated to them.

At the same time, Kyo wouldn't have started his music career if it wasn't for Atsushi.

Gave that initial spark yeah, it had little to no influence on his music though since Kyo wasn't a fan back then.

Kourin was an early favourite of mine, and has stuck still as one of my favourites on here. The second half in particular is incredible.

That said, ranking this would be a serious call for heartache :3

Fuck ranking this, I could name favs and least favs but nothing more. It's designed to be played in one sitting so a ranking would be a disservice to it.

A bit too late, cheers CaptainAaarrrggghhh ^^ You know your Six/Nine review basically was the reason for me to sign up to this site? [And then write another one, 'cause I'm really invested in that album.] So if it wasn't for you, wouldn't have met these lovely gents here.

I actually agree with you, B-T are playing it safe. As different as the new albums may be conceptually, they are all well within their comfort zone. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy the hell out of their new album once that comes out )

I think you can argue they're playing it safe for their standards, but not for the standards of other artists.
