I would definitely not rate this a 5, but it is very deserving of at least 'great' status. As if I haven't said enough about it, it has opened my mind about Indie, which until now, has gone relatively unnoticed as a genre.

To you or the general public, cause indie is quite popular now.

this band are one of the best to come out of england in the last 5 years they have managed to reflect their target audiences emotions in their lyrics without sounding pretentious or patronising they have a bundle of amzing songs on especially the 4th track Dancing Shoes got to give the guys a clap they've manage to be signed and maintain credibilty

Thing that amazes me about these lads is, their all only 18, 19, maybe 20, around that, and they write songs that are all well developed social commentaries, and not only are they talking about the real world around them, they write and play the songs just as well as a songwriter who has 20 years more experience than them... They are the modern-day incarnation of Paul Weller's (legend) band The Jam, except that they will be as big as Oasis. This Message Edited On 04.05.06

I think this is one of the better reviews i've read. I liked the album, but also disliked it because there wasn't a lot to it.
It's definately enjoyable at times, but only a slight majority. I find myself skipping songs, or not coming back to it for weeks on end. It's not a stayer for me.

a great debut, full of songs that most 17-25 year olds can definitley relate to. for example who doesnt think that bouncers at night clubs want it all to kick off! of course they do! great album cant wait for the next

this is the raddest cd ever every song on it awesome

Fantastic review, but I just have no clue why this band is so loved, I've listened to this album many times, and it's still meh.

I think they are maybe slightly overhyped, I think in Britain especially, the whole working class thing is quite popular. Yes they are good, and yes, some of their songs are pretty great, but I'd still say theres a lot for them to learn, but youve got to bear in mind, these kids are 18/19, they done bloody well.
Its the bassist that makes it for me imo, his riffs drive the songs

Awesome album. Every track is good, I think. Personal fave - Dancing shoes, Fake Tales from San Francisco.

^^ Time and time again I find myself saying the hype thing isn't AMs fault and it shouldn't discredit how good this album is.

I have been almost addicted to this band ever since I heard some of their songs recently. They are fairly average as musicians I guess, but I dig something about them. Maybe its their lyrics. I dunno. But "Dancing Shoes" is a great song.

Arctic Monkeys are really getting annoying. After listening to the album a few times over, I came to the conclusion that this album has about two songs that are apart from the rest. I don't know, it's probably just me.
|

Actually, I agree^. I like their name tho. It's just a funny picture. A monkey just standin there in the arctic freezin it's ass off. That would be pretty funny to seeThis Message Edited On 04.29.06
