its weird when twitter first came out, i thought the coolest thing about it (really the only cool thing about it, because microblogging about where you buy organic groceries or how big a dump you just took is and will always be retarded lame) was that it created a direct channel to famous people/celebrities/musicians/semi-celebrities/etc.

and early on, when it was like Kevin Smith and Keith Buckley and Fred Durst shooting the shit with their fans and answering questions, that truly was awesome

but ever since facebook took the same concept and made it promotion-friendly, so interns/"street teams"/whichever unpaid nuthugging douchebag running the artist's facebook page could mobilize fans in the most annoying, dehumanizing way possible... it's sorta ruined twitter's utopia a little

idk if that makes sense it's hard to put into words (because its late where i am)

i feel you man. i follow tons of smaller bands on facebook though, and did pre-twitter, and i feel like saying that facebook's "promotion-friendly" stance is a reaction to twitter is a little off-base.

i didn't say it was a reaction to twitter... i mean, the appeal of direct communication with musicians existed way before twitter... facebook just perfected it's use (on the promotional side) when it changed the 'like' feature (broadening it, integrating it with band pages/profiles)

facebook's real "reaction" to twitter came much earlier when it ripped off tweets for 'status updates' and the 'news feed'
