I think a big part of the hype are its 'dystopia' nature and 'world hunger' themes, along with the 'kill-or-be-killed' theme that the first book definitely tackles much more wholeheartedly than the first two
And people are tagging it as 'the most influential series of our era' or something (I think I saw this in B&N somewhere)
Just saying it's hyped for the wrong reasons, not that it's outright bad - the suspense was definitely well done in the first (and lacking in the second because the games were over)

Haven't read the second one or third one yet so don't spoil!

What are the next books even about? Do they get forced into the hunger games again?

i think the adaptation was great. it's always hard to adapt a book into a movie but they seemed to have done it really really well. i didnt feel like anything was missing and it, though long, it didnt feel really bloated to me. there were probably cliches but they didn't stick out to me? idk it was just really good to me
Fair points. I'll keep an open mind when watching it and report back after I've seen it!

I loved the movie, but I can safely say that the most legitimate qualm that I've heard about it is the fact that it severely downplays the unethical nature of children being forced to fight each other. That's essentially the purpose of the books, and while it does appear in the movie it's more brushed to the side. I mean, they actually blur out the fighting. They couldn't have shown children killing each other if one considers their target audience. However, it does minimize the message and its importance, which I think is the most tragic aspect of the movie. We should have to see the blood - we shouldn't be pardoned from the gory details.
However, I will say that I loved the way that they approached it from a film perspective, even if I didn't necessarily agree with the philosophy behind it. The moment that they step into the ring, they could have easily inserted annoying, overly cinematic music that would have made it much more stale. But what they decided to do instead was make it so much more tense and emotional, and that can be attributed mostly to the score during this scene. If they had been able to maintain this level of emotion throughout the other fight scenes, then I feel like it would have ended up being as potent as Suzanne Collins desired it to be.

They should have had someone from Japan make it

I agree that showing the gore would have made it more real
But I'm still happy with the results

Yeah, I agree with you guys. I honestly think the movie was better than the book though, because Collins really tends to get lost in incredibly slow-moving passages. I started Mockingjay the other day, couldn't even get through 5 pages because she way she described everything made Katniss come across as so disinterested

Blade Runner is one of the most legendary sci-fi films of all time.
Wow, Kid Cudi, Glen Hansard and Pistol Annies all on one soundtrack. I have to check this mess out.

Arcade Fire, Neko Case, The Decemberists.
Could make this kinda cool, but in any case they've lost some cred in my eyes/ears.
