the drumming and guitar parts aren't bad and the vocals are alright but pretty generic. seems like a 2.5-3 to me

Why is this rated so highly? it's generic as fuck and the production is appalling.

Not big on this. The vocals sound way too poppy and it all blends together after awhile.

@KSK1 Thanks man, but nah I wasn't really throwing a hissy fit. Just defending a label and a band that I respect. And @ChuckTheMan wow dude chill the fuck out bro! Oh, and I listen to a shit ton of music. Granted mostly just a few different genres, but even still this debut is easily one of the best I've ever heard. You have your opinion, I have mine. You don't have to get your panties in a bunch.

I respect everyone's opinions, but I'm guessing most people who didn't like it don't normally listen to this kind of music. I'm guessing they like metal or something. These guys have a lot of talent and you'd have to be deaf to not be able to hear that. Doesn't mean you have to like it, but I'm sure anyone who listens to it and likes this kind of music thinks this is an outstanding debut.

@Matt: They have some talent but are incredibly generic. I love post-hardcore but this is just too generic for me to find this as outstanding as you do.

Go listen to Glassjaw. That's post-hardcore at the finest.

the production is as ear splitting as the vocals; listen i don't like being a hater if i don't like something i don't typically try to ruin people's parades but this doesn't deserve accolades

Production on this is terrible. Whoever saying the lyrics are the best they've ever heard or whatever are obviously new to music. A) The production is so bad you can't hear what he's actually saying half the time. B) Anyone can use a thesaurus. These lyrics feel forced. Bands that do lyrics well paint a clear picture of what they're saying. The lyrics on this album are just a bunch of words sung to a melody. Yawn.

Back to the production - don't they always say simple is best? I don't mean in terms of musical technicality, I mean in terms of, why do these guys insist on having a million layers? Normally to me that just suggests covering up for a lack of ability. Don't believe it? Try it yourself!

Lastly, these guys are definitely into their 20's. Would hardly call that very young - Sonny Moore was like 15 when he was singing for FFTL. Not saying I think they were amazing or anything, and Skrillex is garbage, but just a point of reference.

A 1 rating always seems harsh to me; it's like you're saying this is the worst that music could possibly get to. Of course, opinions are opinions, but then again, this album does have a few redeeming features making it better than a pitiful 1 rating.

'A 1 rating always seems harsh to me'

Except for the fact that it sucks
