That solo in Crimson Winds always blows my mind. One of the best ever.

Anders is too busy with the protracted midlife crisis that is modern In Flames.

This is still very underrated, top DT here.
I don’t really agree with people comparing it to The Red In the Sky Is Ours though, very different sounds

I think the reason for this kind of comparison is that these sounds outright disappeared almost instantaneously and were never seen again from the bands.

Yea that’s true. Funny how none of the big three of melodeath sound anything like they did when they started

It's unfortunate too as this is easily among their best releases.

I mainly draw the comparisions between those two albums because of how ridiculously tight the musicianship is and the super challenging composition-style. I know there's a pretty big gap musically, but they sort of possess the same charm in a way.

Nah they’re great, Anders used to be way better than he is now

I don’t really have a definite favorite but a few that come to mind right away would be
Knut - Challenger
Swallowed - Lunarterial
Voivod - Killing Technology
Horrendous - Anareta
Spectral Lore - III
Horseback - The Gorgon Tongue
Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity
Cryptopsy - Blasphemy Made Flash
And many more!!!!!!

This album is taken for granted by many a DT fan
Melodeath was definitely at its most interesting in its early days

yea bands def got lazy after around 2000
this is otherworldly

I really miss the more progressive and non-linear approach to songwriting that the bands had in the beginning, even though I like their current output (except In Flames). It was really interesting and way more dynamic. Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates are still putting out good stuff though, despite having more modern song structures
