warszawa is so beautifully bleak

it makes me think of grey soldiers in grey uniforms in rows in a grey city square surrounded by grey buildings under a grey sky

yeah there's that hint of triumph and glory in there

not sure why it makes me think of WWII or something

that's because warszawa (warsaw in english) is the capitol of poland, and was a really significant location in wwii. the nazis completely leveled the city, killing hundreds of thousands of people.

that would explain it!

yeah I knew about that but didn't think of it while listening until now

was prob aware of it subconsciously which put the image in my head but nevertheless the mood of the track captures that sort of imagery anyway

prob my fave bowie so far, working my way through chronologically, pretty pumped for heroes

how bout you man which is your fave(s)?

I know you weren't asking me but:

Hunky Dory

The Man Who Sold The World

Low

Station to Station

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust...

Aladdin Sane

Lodger

Scary Monsters

Heroes

Heathen

Toy

Earthling

Space Oddity

Something like that and they are all 5-4/5 so they can shift around a lot.

dude omni nice

I actually skipped man who sold the world and started with hunky dory but I will have to get my hands on a copy of that too

it's a toss up between this and hunky for my fave right now but I've loved almost everything so far regardless

I'm amazed at the consistently outstanding level of music he pumped out in such a short space of time

Man who is one of if not the rockinest of all the albums. it's does not get as much attention as many of his others because there is no mythos behind it and it wasn't ground breaking like some. That is made more apparent by how few votes it has when compared to the albums immediately before and after it. Pretty much same number of votes as Space Oddity which is not a great album but has a great track or two and then half as many as Hunky Dory even though it easily rivals it. If you like rock I'm willing to bet one listen and it will quickly become one of your favorite classic rock albums of all time. it is a great companion album to Hunky Dory so if you liked it you'l at least like Man Who.

this is definitely my favorite bowie. then heroes(i'm sure you'll love it since you love this), scary monsters, earthling(not one of his more popular albums but i really love it), hunk dory, station to station, rise and fall of ziggy stardust, diamond dogs. then after that it gets too hard to rank. still have several albums to listen to though, i'm trying to finish his discog before the new album comes out.

thanks omni yeah I love the style he had going on hunky so I'll pick up man who for sure!

right on fox I get what you mean man when there's so much good stuff it's splitting hairs trying to rank it all really

loved major tom's discog of bowie reviews, very enjoyable reading and I dig the history and background info in there - bowie was/is a truly fascinating man

yeah, there's not really any point in ranking. generally i prefer his late 70's/early 80's stuff over

his older glam stuff, but all of it's so good it doesn't really matter. i'm interested in hearing what

his most recent three albums are like, haven't heard a single track off of any of them

yeah i've been reading his reviews while going through each album haha. indeed, bowie is a visionary
