Is The Top really that bad? it's the only Cure I haven't jammed fully.

it's not bad per se, just kinda silly, which sounds extremely wrong for this band, if that makes sense

For such a big AFI fan, your avoidance of this band is pretty odd

The Top is definitely better than their final two releases. It's kinda like Wild Mood Swings, but shorter and even more inconsistent.

It's pretty agreeable that this isn't the ""best"" Cure album by any metric of pseudo-objectivity, but I'll be damned if it isn't my favorite. Came to the realization the other day that while I would concur that Disintegration is "better," this is the one I return to most often. It's the most approachable, the most jammable, and the most well-blended of all the Cure's sensibilities. Track by track out of ten:

• In Between Days 10
• Kyoto Song 8
• The Blood 8
• Six Different Ways 9
• Push 8
• The Baby Screams 7
• Close to Me 10
• A Night Like This 8
• Screw 6
• Sinking 7

Six Different Ways is a 10 but otherwise I agree with everything you just said, record is a pure delight

Does this mean that your 4.5s are albums that average at 8+/10?

I tend/try to use the average of song ratings only as a guidance for the overall album score, and will occasionally apply +0.5 point merits, like if it has two or more 10/10 tracks (such is the case here), or if it contains no tracks lower than a 7. (Also -0.5 point demerits for inversely appropriate cases, like any song below 5/10, etc.) And tracks that I consider mere interludes or artistic respite in service of the "bigger picture" (e.g. 'Fitter Happier' on OK Computer, which is poor when asserted as a standalone "track" but works just fine in the context of the album) don't get factored in. In cases where none of those additional de/merits are achieved, my score usually ends up being the average score of the tracks, yeah.

i just for the love of god can't really get into this thingy. not in my top 5 as far as the cure albums go. heck, it's barely top 10 i'd say
