I listened to this about six times over at work, and it is truly amazing. I didn't think they could beat METN either.

should be noted that i see the title of this album as meaning something close to the following:

life + death = 0

yeah i don't know about anybody else, but that abortion line seemed to come out of nowhere. track nine of ten, first line, so unambiguous, blunt, almost matter-of-fact. a total gut punch. the whole record is hard to stomach because of bits like that, but you have to admire hull's commitment to confession. the album is very spiritual in that way, and, as a result, it radiates this strange, like adam said rather profound, sense of unity and empathy. again, not much fun, but deeply, almost perversely, shake-you-by-the-shoulders involving.

just sucks my headphones are broken so i can't listen to this on anything other than speakers right now. thats why i'm hesitant to review.

Yeah, you get the feeling he's genuinely just writing about his thoughts at certain times in his life and not even considering it as a song that other people will be listening to, so you get sudden references like that and the one about his daughter, which just seem like rounds from loose cannons in his head, and that makes it really fucking intense, because you get the feeling that there's a hell of a lot of lines joined up in his head that you can only sort of grasp at. It'll be interesting to see whether in time people piece together the whole jigsaw.

My favorite part of the album is actually Leave It Alone, from, "When I was a fire..." to the end of the song. Just incredibly beautiful and packed with so much emotion.

Hahahaha. Glad I didn't have to play that game. I did try it for kicks but it wasn't as fun as I had been hoping.

it's a good review and all sowing, I just generally disagree.

I think this is a step down from METN, I think it lacks the sincerity and raw emotion that made the last two releases so good, but I really really hope it grows on me.
