Great review - pos.
Question though - why did you stop short of a 5.0, Knott?

'April Fool'; the occasional overtly Christian lyric, which is a minor barrier to me and probably some others; and the fact that despite all I say about 'Leaky Breaks' in the review it's still slightly underwhelming as a closer.

I still think Leaky Breaks is just a perfect closer.

Kinda hard to say because there are no weak tracks on here, but I prefer it to Mighty.

The album's great, but the last three tracks are a bit underwhelming imo.

Not a single bad track, Mighty and April Fool are weaker than the rest.

April Fool's my least favourite too - didn't grab me as a single and hasn't yet on here.

"the occasional overtly Christian lyric"
I have personally never seen that as a negative. Maybe it's because I grew up heavily in the religion (and
althoughI've dropped it, it still resonates emotionally with me.) But Andy Hull is a spiritual person, and his
religious lyrics are some of his most powerful and most overall personal lyrics. There's something so personally
delicate and human about his faith. And I would rather an artist be genuine, even in the form of a religiously
inspired lyric, than be "safe". Do I agree at all with mewithoutYou albums? no, not at all, but I do find them to be an
incredible experience through Aaron Weiss's psyche. Though this is on a much smaller scale, I would say
the same applies for Andy Hull's music

Well I obviously don't see it as a negative either, hence this overwhelmingly positive review. But since 5s are a personal thing by and large, and Irving asked why the review wasn't a 5, I answered honestly. I'll be frank: I get around the religious nature of a lot of lyrics very easily because, for example, lines like "I think I talk to you best when I sing," don't have to be about God at all, and in my head they resolve to attach themselves to girls, even though Hull probably meant it spiritually. It's just slightly more difficult to ignore the slight jolt of disconnection I get when he talks about Jesus dying in Pale Black Eye, and that's all I meant.

Yeah, I could understand and appreciate that. Just had a random urge to to state my opinion, that's all.... :P

Great review Adam. Only nitpick I noticed was that you began 2 sentences with "But". That usually doesn't bother me anyway.
I liked 'METN' much more than I thought I would, so can't wait to spin this.

Shouldn't that have said "but that usually doesn't bother me anyway"?
