I haven't heard the album yet. But I'm sure I won't be disappointed because it is AA and AA kicks ass all the time. I like the album cover and I'm sure the songs will be epic and full of vikings and battle stories, with fire and swords and all that shit. This is exactly why we want to listen to AA!! Valhall rules!

Nothing they put out has or will match the ferocity, intensity, and a bit of a emotion that was on Once Sent From the Golden Hall. I might was well listen to this for the heck of it though.

This review could not have summarized my thoughts on Amon Amarth any more concisely. I love these guys but, even within their "well-worn" niche, there are albums that stand out and cannot simply be repeated.

'Versus the World' and 'With Oden on Our Side' are great examples of a palpable change in sound (but not formula) that resulted in two identifiably separate entities, each with their own merit.

These guys can refrain (and have indeed refrained) from blatantly rehashing melodies and chord progressions while still maintaining that which makes them great. It's only in the last two albums that I begin to let loose sighs because of the increasing obviousness of water-treading and the lack of creativity.

It's definitely more aggressive than their last few.

As a whole this didn't really live up to the quality of their past albums, but it's still a solid album. There's some great riffs on this one.

I think this abum is better than the review says it is, Amon are one of the better Melo-death bands. By the way reviewer, what sort of surprise do you want a genre like this to give you?

Never said I wanted any surprises I was saying that Amon Amarth never get shit for playing the same thing over and over while other bands do.

I think that it has something to do with the fact that it's hard to be innovative as a death metal band without being seen as a 'sell-out'.

^ Basically this. They have a tried tested and true formula which isn't trying to be something it's not. Playing Viking themed metal always resonates well, and they're one of the pioneers of it. So people still like them.

I'll always have a soft spot for Amon Amarth. One of the first heavier bands I got into.

The fact that they look so badass while doing it certainly helps
