@Flupmorph

That's the land that the "Voivod" creatures live in, like Korgull the Exterminator, the Warriors of Ice, and the Iron Gang from their first two albums. The third album is kinda-sorta about the main Voivod (the one that's on all their covers, I think the main one is supposed to be Korgull) surviving a nuclear holocaust or something (the cockroaches are supposed to be the insects that take over after humanity is dead following nuclear warfare), and of course Dimension Hatross is a full blown concept album about that main Voivod creating his own dimension and then destroying it at the end.

Or something. The whole "concept" of their first five albums is fucking confusing, because in the interviews from the 80s where they elaborate on it, their English is kinda shaky. All I know for sure is that Voivods are warriors in the land of Morgoth and there's a main one (whose name may or may not be Korgull the Exterminator) that Dimension Hatross is about and that main one is on all their covers during that era.

I wasn't even aware there was a concept to their albums. I'm sure I could find some videos in French where they explain it better. I know Morgoth is based on their hometown of Jonquière, Quebec, which was an industrial town with factories and quarries.

Dimension Hatross is about Korgull's Dog exploits :

Denis Belanger, aka Snake, is one of the coolest lyricists, nay, storytellers in the genre. He narrates the exploits of Voivod’s Sienkiewicz-esque mascot cyborg Korgull, as beamed directly into the brain from beyond the cosmos– high noise-to-signal ratio. In this episode, Korgull materializes in a totalitarian hell-dimension…observes flying god-leader and cowering populace…contemplates resistance, conflict, war…”Who is the god? Who is the dog?”
