toaster, you'll definitely like at least a couple of these songs. they brought back a lot of the guitar playing style from the original downtown battle mountain. they also incorporated a lot from the s/t and happiness, so if those were up your alley, i think you'd definitely find the album an enjoyable listen, whether you think it's that "good" or not

Will you guys be butthurt if i say this is my least favorite of their major releases ?
Album highlight is clearly the screaming by Mess, vastly improved. Not a fan of the "joyful", "upbeat" riffing in combination with craig's voice. It definitely fits kurt's style more. It also feels like he's (craig) going through the motions, needs more wailing, too restrained.

nahhh. i'm still trying to decide how this will fit within the rest of their discography for me. the original dtbm and happiness are my fucking joints so i dunno if this will ever top those. but at the moment, i feel like this, overall is still better than the s/t.
i agree with your analysis of craig's singing though. i think it fits the band's sound better that he's being a little more reserved but i wanted some more trademark jonny wailing. and i do find it a bit unsettling that they brought his junkie ass back and now he's kind of adopting kurt's style. further attests to my opinion that while kurt was not the better singer, he was the better fit for the band's sound.
the r&b-sounding parts of blue dream are still good as fuck though
